There once was a young girl named Beauty who didn’t seem to fit in. Her nose was always stuck in a book and unlike her sisters, she wasn’t looking for Prince Charming to rescue her. What she wanted was adventure and that’s just what she found. To settle her father’s debt, she goes to live in a magical castle with a mysterious beast. What she discovers is her true self, friendship and the meaning of love.
The musical features a score for three percussionist and one cello. This adaptation, based on the original book by Jeanne-Marie LePrince de Beaumont, also features dream scenes from the original 1740 novella and is filled with endearing and amusing characters, wonder and magic. Hailed as one of the first Science-fiction novels in 1818. Frankenstein features a score by Michael Sgouros with a live chamber ensemble.

Five stray dogs share their “tails” while waiting to be adopted at a NYC animal shelter. Meet Bravo, the young pup new to the shelter and full of joy and hope. Daphne Louise, German Shepheard -veteran at the shelter – still waiting for her furever home. Tex, a small pit-bull mix who thinks he is a cowboy although he has never left Queens. Fifi, an older and previously pampered French poodle who believes she is French – oh la la. Whoops, the lovable and overly clumsy golden retriever and class clown.

Told as a story within a story - this is a tale about courage, discovery and the voyage everyone must make to find their true self.
This program allows independent theatre companies, community theatres and schools to license new Sgouros and Bell musicals developed at the Players Theatre in New York
City.

Michael Sgouros and Brenda Bell are NYC-based musical theater writers who have written 13 musicals and as well as plays with music. Michael is the composer, and Brenda is the librettist / lyricist, and they have had over 60 productions Off-Broadway as well as productions internationally. Most of their shows are literature-based with scores that are percussion dominate, which creates a unique timbre for a musical theater production. On this channel, the musical theater writing team breakdown their process and share some of the insight they have gained from producing shows Off-Broadway since 2008.

A native New Yorker, Michael has enjoyed performing as drummer/percussionist in a variety of musical settings which have included the American Symphony, Philharmonia Virtuosi, Ethos Percussion Group, Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus and the Broadway productions of The Secret Garden, Falsettos, The Goodbye Girl, Sunset Boulevard, Miss Saigon and Phantom of the Opera. He has toured nationally with A Chorus Line and has traveled to Singapore and Costa Rica with the touring productions of Anything Goes and Tico Tales. Mr. Sgouros has worked professionally with Eartha Kitt, Mandy Patinkin, Michael Rupert, Bernadette Peters, Martin Short, Danny Aiello, Michael Kamen, Alison Janney, Laura Linney and Richard Thomas. He has also collaborated with notable percussionists Glen Velez, Stefan Harris, Michael Markus, Danny Druckman, Howie Joines and Samir Chatterjee. Rumor has it that she wrote, produced and directed her first show at age 6 when the summer proved to be too boring. Her first love has always been dance and Bell is committed to increasing the role of dance in Off-Broadway musicals. As the owner of the Showboat Theatre, she wrote and produced shows for theatre legends including Mickey Rooney, Jamie Farr, Van Johnson, Mimi Hines and Frank Gorshin. Her writing credits also include Reading is Cool for Reading is Fundamental and Chasing Phantom: a travelogue that traced the novel of Phantom of the Opera through Paris. Her next theatre adventure includes traveling to Prague to study Black Light Theatre for the upcoming production of The Little Mermaid at the Players Theatre.
